Journeys in Nepal
Before you go
- Getting there
- Fly to Kathmandu, or cross by road at Raxaul–Birgunj or Sunauli–Bhairahawa. Flights to Lukla for the Everest region leave from Kathmandu, or from Ramechhap in peak season.
- Permits
- Indian citizens need a passport or voter ID and no visa. Trekking regions need national park and local permits, which we arrange.
- What to eat
- Dal bhat, Sherpa stew, Tibetan bread, momos and yak cheese.
- October and November have the clearest skies. March to May is warmer, with rhododendrons in flower.
- Indian rupees are widely accepted, but carry Nepali rupees in the mountains.
- UPI works in many shops in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
- Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation cover is essential for high treks.
